Fort Myers, Florida — In a strong show of leadership and compassion, the City of Fort Myers is hosting a community-wide PTSD Awareness Morning on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Council Chambers, located at 2200 Second Street. This initiative, aligned with National PTSD Awareness Day, reflects the City’s growing commitment to emotional well-being, trauma recovery, and collective healing.

As part of the program, health and well-being advocate Christin Collins will join City of Fort Myers Fire Chief Tracy McMillion to share insights on how trauma affects individuals, families, and first responders and how community connection can be a powerful tool for healing.

“I’m appreciative to be part of the conversation to raise awareness for PTSD and the experiences I’ve encountered as a first responder,” said City of Fort Myers Fire Chief Tracy McMillon. “Speaking on this critical issue reinforces the belief that healing begins with open dialogue and is sustained by the strength of community support.”

After the presentation, attendees will take part in a 1.1-mile awareness walk through downtown Fort Myers, symbolizing unity and support for those impacted by PTSD. The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Community members are encouraged to attend, listen, and walk together in support of those living with or recovering from post-traumatic stress.

“This is such an important and meaningful step,” said Collins. “I’m honored to support the City of Fort Myers as they create space for open dialogue and collective healing. The program will be a celebration of empathy, leadership, and the power of walking beside one another in support.”
